| Greetings,
Fellow Lions, |

As we start the second half of this Lions year I would like to review our achievements and focus on the work and challenges that need to be addressed. On the membership front we have recorded 1298 members on the LCI website as at 23 January. I am aware of some resignations but I am also aware of some new members to be inducted. For fear of sounding like a stuck record increased membership is critical to maintaining our Lions clubs. We must make attracting new and younger members our “Number One” priority. Arrange for “Bring a Friend” and use the “J-Plan” as well. On a bright note we have arrangements in place to set up a Leo club at St. Kevin’s College, Oamaru. All we need now is the students to sign up. I believe there is an opportunity to establish other Leo clubs in the district. I received four Peace posters. Thank you to the clubs who supported this International project. This year, 2012, the theme is: “Imagine Peace”. Club Excellence Process (CEP) - I cannot emphasise this enough. CEP is the best process to ensure that clubs are functioning well and meeting the needs of their communities. It makes us proactive. We will have efficiently run clubs supporting worthy projects that have been identified as needing assistance. The alternative is being reactive where we organise ourselves in response to someone’s request. Club visits are almost complete with two scheduled for February to finish off. It has been an honour and a privilege to attend club meetings on behalf of Lions Clubs International. We do so many interesting and varied activities. Training Days and Leadership Seminars are planned and I encourage members to take the opportunity to attend these. Systems change over time and by attending these you receive up to date information for the benefit of yourself and your club. We are getting good publicity for our activities; keep those reports flowing. People do like seeing good work being done in their communities. It was a pleasure to receive a cheque for $1,650 from the real estate company Cutlers Ltd as a donation for the LCIF “SightFirst” programme. This review would not be complete without some comment about the Camp Quality South camp at Lakeland, Kelvin Heights, Queenstown. It was a privilege to be invited to attend the final dinner and concert. The enthusiasm of the campers and the support of the companions and staff was an experience that Beryl and I will remember. I commend this worthy organisation to clubs for your support so that many more successful camps can be held for these less fortunate children. I believe Lions do make a difference; let's make the next six months very good ones for 202J and grow this great organisation in our district.
